Finance Minister, Dr. Peter Phillips says he’s confident that talks with US President Barack Obama have set the platform for a welcome boost to Jamaica’s debt reduction efforts and the push to achieve significant economic growth
Dr. Phillips says the public endorsement from the Obama-administration of fiscal policies being pursued by the Government is also a major fillip.
The Finance Minister was among several senior Cabinet Ministers who participated in bilateral talks led by President Obama and Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller at Jamaica House yesterday.
Speaking to our news centre this afternoon, Dr. Phillips said written proposals will now be put to the Obama administration.
The Finance Minister said President Obama and his team showed an understanding of the fiscal challenges facing Jamaica and showed a willingness to assist.
Yesterday, President Obama praised the Simpson Miller administration for its implementation of important fiscal reforms.
Dr. Phillips said that endorsement augurs well for Jamaica.
