Opposition Leader Mark Golding wants to see heightened protective measures for councillors in the wake of the murder of People’s National Party, PNP, Councillor Ainsley Parkins.
Mr. Golding was speaking at the funeral service of the slain councillor on Sunday.
Mahiri Stewart has that report:
The PNP Leader and a number of other high-ranking members of the party were present at the funeral service of the late Councillor Parkins.
These include PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell, Opposition Spokesperson on Education, Senator Damion Crawford and PNP Caretaker for East Central St. Catherine, Raymond Pryce.
The Southborough Division Councillor was shot fifteen times by an attacker while overseeing a project in an area of Portmore known as Twenty Cent earlier in July.
Speaking at the service, Mr Golding called on the government to do more to ensure that councillors are given ample protection when carrying out their duties.
Mr. Golding described Parkin’s demise as an assassination.
The Opposition Leader hailed Councillor Parkins as a man who was held in high regard in the PNP due to his commitment to his job.
