The Pan American Health Organization, PAHO, says Covid-19 cases and deaths have been decreasing across the Americas since the distribution of vaccines.

Director of PAHO, Dr. Carissa Etienne says several countries across the region are seeing rapid declines.

She however notes that countries should not get complacent.

According to PAHO, 34,000 people died from Covid-19 across the Americas since last week, with over a million Covid 19 positive cases over the same period.

Those numbers are still alarming, but during a media briefing this morning, Dr. Etienne said several countries have seen massive reductions in the number of Covid-19 cases:

In warning against complacency Dr. Etienne says if the measures are relaxed countries are sure to see a resurgence.

Dr. Etienne added that PAHO will ramp up efforts to distribute more vaccines across the region in coming weeks.
