Prime Minister Andrew Holness, says he hopes to pass the revised National Identification System, NIDS, bill this year.
He says a review of the Bill is complete and it will return to the House soon.
Speaking in the House of Representatives this afternoon he says Jamaica cannot be left behind at this time.
The Prime Minister says the government is committed to overcoming the hurdles to implementing NIDS.
He also outlined some of the benefits of such a system.
