Expect to see more police officers doing spot checks this weekend.

That’s the word from the head of the Police Traffic Division, Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen.

He says the police are doing strategic deployment — especially on the weekend — because that’s when many deadly crashes occur.

Earlier this week, the police revealed that 131 people have died road accidents so far this year.

This is compared with 118 road deaths for the same period last year.

The police statistics show that most of this year’s fatalities occurred in Westmoreland, Clarendon and St. Ann.
