Executive Director of Stand Up for Jamaica, Carla Gullotta, is renewing calls for a specific category of prisoners to be released following an outbreak of Covid-19 cases in some correctional centres across the island.
According to Ms Gullotta the penal institutions are overcrowded which makes it impossible for prisoners to comply with the Covid-19 protocols.
She listed people who are being held for not paying a ticket as a category of inmates who should be considered for release.
Ms Gullotta also shared that mentally ill inmates who are unfit to plea should also be released.
