Government and opposition members clashed in the Upper House this afternoon over statements made by Senator Gabriella Morris regarding education minister Fayval Williams.

Senator Morris wrongly attributed to and chided Minister Williams for comments suggesting particular dress codes can discourage sexual harassment of girls.

In response, Leader of Government Business Senator Kamina Johnson Smith called on Senator Morris to withdraw the statement as misleading.

But, her opposition counterpart Peter Bunting accused Mrs. Johnson Smith of speaking hearsay.

However, acting Senate president, Charles Sinclair, ruled that Senator Morris, was entitled to her own interpretation.

In continuing her contribution to the State of the Nation Debate, the senator called on the education minister to clarify government’s stance on grooming in schools.
