Senior Medical Officer of Health for St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital, Dr Tanya Hamilton-Johnson says more than half of trauma cases they’ve received between January and May were due to road traffic crashes.
She says this is an increase compared to the similar period last year.
Dr. Hamilton-Johnson told our news centre recently that of the 1-thousand 2-hundred and 94 trauma cases recorded during that period, 6-hundred and 41 were due to road traffic crashes.
She noted that these cases put a further strain on the hospital’s resources and emotionally burden staff and patients.

In the meantime, Officer in Charge of the Emergency Section of the Jamaica Fire Brigade Superintendent, Gary Morgan says these crashes have an emotional and psychological effect on first responders.
