Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Tourism Ministry, Delano Seiveright, says the recent Level 4 travel advisory from the US State Department is in no way related to the country’s crime issues but to Covid-19.
The caution against travel to Jamaica was issued by the State Department in an update on its website on Tuesday.
The advisory states that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, issued a Level 2 Travel Health Notice for Jamaica due to Covid-19, indicating a moderate level of the virus in the island.
Mr. Seiveright says the notice is standard in US travel advisories for several countries and while the crime notations are unfortunate, it has been the case for years.
Mr. Seiveright says he hopes the current Covid-19 fourth wave will not severely impact Jamaica’s ranking.
