Nationwide Sports understands that a male Jamaican athlete who had qualified to represent the island in at least two field events at the Olympic Games will not be making the trip to Tokyo because he has tested positive for Covid-19.
The athlete is Carey McLeod who was set to compete in the men’s long and triple jump events.
The positive Covid-19 test was received this week.
It’s understood that he has been notified and is in isolation.
McLeod did not board an international flight to Tokyo.
It’s unlikely that Jamaica will be able to name a replacement. The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games is to take place tomorrow.
